Abstract

Six oceanographics observations taken between 1975 and 1986 on the colombian Pacific, were analized and used for the description of its gestrophic circulation; the geostrophic method was calculed using -250 db, as no motion level and the Helland- Hansen procedure. The geostrophics currents on the surface, state the presence of one semipermanent Colombian Current meander at latitud 6°N, north with changes on its intensity and a coastal current off Choco is advise flowing to the south. During events from ENSO phenomena the response of the dynamic topography shows eddies and meanders on the surface related to and increase of the steric level and arrival of waters coming from the west which changed the normal circulation of the study area. On the analysis of the thermohaline distribution was found that subsurface Ecuatorial Water and Central Ecuatorial Water are transported by the Colombian Current alternatively and it was advised the presence of intermediary Antarctic Water and Pacific Deep Water.
