Abstract

The analysis was done in the geographical area for the EFREN comprehended between 2° lat N, and 6° lat. N and 82º W, specifically in the zones north of the Colombian Pacific (Cabo Corrientes), line Buenaventura - Malpelo, line Tumaco, studying surface phytoplankton in two seasons characteristics to the Pacific and having the reference of existing historical data. The presence of the environmental parameter temperature on the distribution of a marine ecosystem as the surface marine phytoplankton showed, that the species identified as biological indicators of the “El Niño” coincided with the beginning of the indicative thermal anomalies of the evolution of a hot event; also phytoplankton found in the study period, show a mixture of very different elements with an ample ecological composition, indicating waters of different origins: coastal and oceanic. More information is presented with the aim to complementing the knowledge on the environmental changes made by the “El Niño” and in this way, complete the physical-chemical and fisheries analysis allowing approximations in the orientation of activities that could be affected, like fisheries strategies, measures in aquaculture, market decisions, management of hydrological resources.
