Abstract

the reference guide for navigators and beginners, this symbology is a collection of nautical charts from the country adapted to International Maritime Organization (IMO) guidelines, which allows the easy interpretation of the cartography developed by the NHS. This document is an adaptation and has been elaborated according to the experience of all the military and non-uniformed people integrated to the NHS. Also the NHS thru the last forty years has become a reference guide at the region and has been recognized for International organizations and maritime authorities, because of quality on its products, generating safety for navigation for vessels and planning land and off shore nautical activities or operations at the Caribbean and Pacific Colombian coasts. In the following pages, the reader will find an outline detailing how the information is presented, what it means and how is data distributed within a nautical chart. The colors in this publication are defined as the same used on a standard nautical chart, in example: ocher color characterizes terrestrial areas; two tonalities blue color, indicates shallow or dangerous waters; magenta defines warnings and aids to navigation, and black is used for texts and symbols.
