Abstract

In this study the levels of some physicochemical parameters are analyzed, obtained through monthly samplings in ten stations located in the Tumaco Bay, from February in 199 7 and September in 1999. These parameters rule aquatic life mea ns so their knowledge constitutes a basic tool to evaluate the water quality. The analysis is centered in the variation means ranges, because it is considered as a solid information highly representative of the area. The obtained levels are inside the normal ranges reported in the literature. The averages of the different parameters through the study lead to the conclusion of the existence of permanent fluctuations for oxygen and nutrients, mainly; as a consequence of production processes, such as: consumption, dilution and transport. Final/y it is important to notice the Tumaco Bay is a complex place with special characteristics due to the presence of a mixture process of two type of waters (fresh and salted), each with very defined properties.
