Abstract

The results of the geomorphologic characterization of the coastline zone of the Sta te of Atlantico, between Barranquilla (Bocas de Ceniza) and La Flecha de Galerazamba, corresponding to 76 km of the coast profile of the Caribbean coast of Colombia are shown. The geomorphologic units which draw and make up the coastline were classified as low and high coasts. The former were defined by beaches, litoral sand bars, spits, sand dunes, coastal p!ains, alluvial plains, coastal lagoons, mangrove swamp plain zones, tómbolas, salt mines and flooding zones; the latter are defined by hillocks, hills and high abrasive platforms. The processing of the cartographic information was carried out by using the tools and the conveniences of the CAR!S Geographic lnformation System, for the ana/ysis of satellite images the PCI software was used, and far the first time, the technique of orthocorrection of aerial photography in the research projects of the CIOH, using the OrthoEngine software was implemented. The whole previous process served as a complement to the Base Cartography of the IGAC and it alowed the updating of special zones concept update specific zones. This information was represented in 1:10.000 maps, from which the Une of Jurisdiction of O/MAR far this departament was delimited based on geomorphologicals units asociated to the of the concept of maritime beach.
