Abstract

This study focused on define tsunamigenic zones in the Caribbean with earthquakes as the main generating resource. The analysis started from the relation between the historical tsunami records, earthquakes, and the behavior of the faults on the geotechnical boundaries that surround the Caribbean plate. The Tsunamigenic potential for each zone was established according to the statistical relation between the earthquakes with magnitude >6,0 Mw and depth <160 km and the number of earthquakes registered from 1900 to 2018. Quantitative value conventionally called Tsunami Efficiency (TE). Seven tsunamigenic zones were defined in total on geotectonic boundaries of the Caribbean Plate and the Antillas Menores zone was establish with the highest level of Tsunami generator potential.
