Abstract

The knowledge rooted in people and their communities is part of the knowledge process that constitutes them and that is expressed in social practices, these conformed by global and local, tacit and explicit elements. In this way, this research seeks to know and distinguish the importance of traditional knowledge of artisanal shipbuilding and navigation within the Wayúu indigenous community in the Colombian Guajira Media, as knowledge that will be expressed throughout the technical complexes through of construction techniques and technologies. Likewise, it is essential to begin to understand boats as social actors, who have the ability to configure and influence, based on the multiple social activities that take place within the community. Since they end up being the synthesis of the social life not only of the builders but of the fishermen, since in it is possible to evidence the existence of knowledge that was transmitted to them either by their relatives or friends. All of this becomes the final expression of the cultural relations between objects and their creators or carriers, allowing us to understand the role that this knowledge plays within communities and the importance of traditional knowledge.
