Abstract

On this paper some concepts frequently used by oceanographes and meteorologists during their research related to El Niño are explained. We make a short historical review about the evolution of the name of this event of ocean-atmosphere interaction and try to explain the probable set up mechanism and the national and international effort in arder to understand and predict the El Niño event.
