Abstract

By means of measuring the main physicalchemical parameters in the Bocagrande sector a characterization of the coastal waters is made. The main influence comes from the waters of the Mira River in the area between esteros Purún and El Bajito (Coast of Department of Nariño). This study is part of the biological program in progress by the Centro de Control de Contaminación del Pacífico (Pollution Control Center of the Pacific) in the Región IV, Zona III approved by the (Dirección General Marítima y Portuaria, Martime Authority) DIMAR. The valúes obtained in the different physicalchemical parámetres: Dissolved Oxigen, Ph, DB07, Nutrients, Turbidity and Salinity, are typical for mid-productive estuarine waters with influence from inland nutrients rich waters, there are no mayor pollution problems since the valúes for DB07, Ph, OD, and Nitrites are between the quality standards for estuarine waters. The water in the zone is suitable for recreation, preservation only with some restriction to the north, specially in low tide, period of mayor influence of the sewage waters from the city of Tumaco.
