Abstract

tarting from a project that pretends to stablish the characteristics of the Colombian Pacific Coast with the intention of determining the public use goods administrated by the Dirección General Marítima, a study was made that permitted to stablish the cover of the ground on the coast zone of the Bahía de Tumaco. The environmental conditions, the dynamism of the coast, the surf and the processes of sedimentation, among others, make that these quantities can not be determined in absolute terms and, consequently, that update processes are required. The methodology of the work is based on the visual analysis and the implementation of techniques of digital processing to get and classify the information obtained through satellite images of medium resolution LANDSAT–7 ETM+. Taking into account the environmental conditions of the region and based on the spectral signatures, through the work were determined the extension and the distribution of the parameters that cover the land, generating thus thematic cartography, which is very important in the colombian jurisdictional field.
