Abstract
The purpose of thís paper is to analyse the El Niño-Southern Oscíllation (ENSO) effects on the clímate over the northwestem regían of South America. Wfth a detailed analysis of the hístorica/ behavior of the sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies and the sea level height (SLH) anomalíes in T umaco and Buenaventura, the manifestation of the ENSO north of the El Niño-2 region, o ver the colombian pacific coast is studied and complementary knowledge about the particularity of the ENSO in this regían, is obtained. In the same way, the impact on the space-time distribution of rainfall is a/so studied and anomalíes in the El Niño' and anti - El Niño phases are identified.
