Abstract
The Aids to Navigation Service is traditionally named “maritime signaling.” All visual, acoustic, electronic and radioelectric devices designed to improve safety to navigation, ease traffic and preserve the environment are considered to be aids to navigation. The service provided and maintained by said devices is known as the navigational aid service. In order to exist as such, there needs to be interaction in time and space between the service provider and the user (e.g. the mariner). There must be uniformity, not just between the aids to navigation themselves, but also in the level of service provided in order to ensure the existence of similar levels between the whole maritime community, especially in areas that serve as international borders. In order to identify their sphere of action, the Aids to navigation Authority shall create a basic document that explains their role, their responsibilities and the juridical and other bases of their powers.
