Abstract
Marine protected areas have become a very important strategy in the attempts to preserve areas of special vulnerability and ecological interest worldwide. The Aichi goals at the international level in the marine protected areas have become a strategy and measurement pattern in the achievement of preservation objectives, even in some cases, the constitution of these spaces has served as political instruments for the defence of conflicts international in territorial matters. Colombia, through the constitution of the Seaflower marine protected area, has invoked this figure in the territorial conflict with Nicaragua. This work is part of the results of the research project "Processes of territorialization of marine spaces in Colombia", and their objective is to highlight the importance of knowledge about the policies and strategies established by the Colombian government in matters of environmental conservation, but above all to analyze how these same strategies have been serving the purposes of conservation of national border areas.
