Abstract
In this paper, an analysis of ceramic remains is made, focusing on the mouth-rim of botija that were recovered from a wreck found in Bocachica, Cartagena de Indias. This is carried out with the aim to develop a typological characterization of them and by that, understand the motivations behind the transatlantic trade that made possible the existence of this archaeological record in underwater context. The analysis was carried out using a comparative method between the drawings of the diagnostic parts with the Goggin and Mintz (1964) and Carter (1982) references. This study is a line of evidence from the archeological record, making it necessary to continue investigating this shipwreck from different perspectives for a holistic understanding of the archaeological site. In this way, an interpretation is made from an everyday life, were the mass production of the botijas was made possible due to the need to import the daily culture of spanish emigrants in colonial territories.
