Introduction: ✓ Colombia is a country with many natural tropical ecosystems that are prone to fires. ✓ The department of Tolima is mainly characterized by agricultural production, being the main economic activity the most important one. ✓ Tolima recorded between 2017-2018 an accumulated area of 6.213 ha affected by forest fires. ✓ Nowadays, remote sensing provides the possibility to monitor vegetation cover fires at different spatial and temporal scales. ✓ The objective of this study is to analyze the spatio-temporal distribution of hot spots and their relationship with environmental variables for the period 2001-2021 using MODIS and VIIRS-derived hot spot data.
