Abstract
The monitoring of hidrocarbons, plaguicides and organic matter was started, in 1985, by the CCCP ( Centro Control Contaminación del Pacifico) within the frame of an Action Plan for protection of the marine environment and coastal areas of the Southeast Pacific, sponsored by the PCSP (Permanent Commission for the South Pacific). This research work is aimed to analyze the tendency of the pollutants concentrations in the water body receptors, sediments and organisms. At the same time a description of main economical activities at the Colombian Pacific coastal areas and the possible sources of pollution for the region is made looking for determining the impact of the different types of pollutans on it 's social-economic development. By testing the tendency of sorne pollutans, space and time fluctuations were fm1nded, finding, at present, relatively high concentrations at Buenaventura and Tumaco. There are a/so sorne areas that could reach critic levels. The main reason far the CCCP, of focusing this social-economic aspects is to give altematives to the community, contributing to the sustained development of the region.
