Abstract
The aim of the present work is to introduce an approximation method to determine the enteran ually changes experienced by physical parameters given in a tropical area. A Fifth Grade Polynomial Regression was chosen because of its identity with tropical processes and was applied to collected oceanographic data from The Colombian Pacific Basin, obtained by the Colombian Navy through 26 years (1970-1996). The main result is the characterization of temperature and salinity vertical variations in the different regions of the Colombian Pacific. Based on this result, it is possible to conclude the marine dynamic processes involved in the upper layer of the ocean, as a effect of the ocean-atmosphere interaction with the Trade winds patterns dueto the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) transit With the end of obtaining more precise monthlyaverage data for each station and to every standard depth, it is necessary to feed the data base with more information aquired in the next cruises.
