Abstract
In order to evidence the changes in the microalgae community due to the effect caused by the events "El Niño" and "La Niña", the CCCP has come studying from 1997 the distribution standars of the phytoplankton in ten sampling stations located to the interior of the Tumaco Bay, by means of the monthly monitoring; it s clear to corroborate the close relationship that exists between the population changes of diatoms and dinoflagellates (principal groups that compose to the phytoplankton) and the variations in physical-chemical parameters such as temperature, salinity and oxigen. From the beginning of the monitoring in february of 1997 has been registered a trend to the increase of the community as a rule, departing of abundance average of 284 cells/ml in 1997, being observed a notorius increase in the populations from second period of 1999 with an average of 1146 cells/ml, for finally to arrive to records that surpass 2500 cells/ml in 2000 (2022 cells/ml in average).
