Abstract

The lackto the interior of the CCCP of support methodologies for the quality management of the cartographic production processes has made necessary the implementation of methods and tools that guide this processes toward the continuous improvement and toward the conformity with the specifications that settle down for the produced cartography. The used methodology included the elaboration of a quality diagnosis in the cartographic processes; the definition of improvement actions with base in the diagnosis results; implementation of the improvement actions; application of the methods and documented tools; and evaluation and pursuit of the methods and developed tools, and finally, a stage of improvement of this methods and tools with the purpose of assuring the effectiveness and efficiency of the processes of cartographic production of the CCCP. The obtained results are useful for the CCCP inside their general objective of quality management of the produced scientific information. The methods and outlined tools applied in this study they can be applied in other institutions that use digital cartography and SIG and they can be used as contributions to the discussions of the Committee Icontec 0034 (2000 a) for normalization of geographical information in Colombia. The methods and established tools are important for the Dirección General Marítima, DIMAR, and they should be applied in the units that produce digital cartography with the purpose of offering cartographic products with high standards of quality.
