Abstract
The bay of Tumaco, located in the southernmost Pacific coast of Colombia, is a región threatened by the occurrence of tsunamis. Fourteen coastal populations of the municipalities of Tumaco and Francisco Pizarro are settled along the bay. Previous information about the expected arrival time and height of tsunamis generated locally, and of the time lapse in which the populations are threatened after a tsunami is triggered by an earthquake, becomes an essential tool for the effective implementation of local tsunami warning systems. In this study we analyze the arrival of the tsunami at 10 of the populations settled along Bay of Tumaco by means of the numerical simulation of a tsunami generated offshore the Bay of Tumaco. Tsunami amplification by resonance was found in some of the localities. Arrival times and heights were established from the resulting synthetic tsunamis at each one of the localities.
