Abstract

The establishment of the use aptitude as a characterístic of quality of the cartography of coastal populations surveyed by the Pacific Pollution Control Center, CCCP, in the colombían Pacifíc coast, were the objective of the present study. The importance of the study resides in that is the only detailed cartography available in the country of these coastal areas. So, the necessity to establish their true use aptitude through a technically sustained methodology. The study was carried out inside the mark of the characterízation and evaluation of the coast Colombian Pacific project and at the same time also, inside the design of the quality system of the scientist and technician information produced by the CCCP. Their reach understood the establishment and application of a methodology to determine the uses that could be given to the cartography, based in the cartographic necessities of the GeneralMarítime Direction, DIAAAR. The basic procedures understood: (i) The establishment of the cartographic necessities of the General Marítime Direction, (ii)The determination of the smallest unit to be mapped, (iii) The re-outlinedof the horízontal accuracystandard, (iv) Compute, for second time, of the horízontal accuracy indicator established, (v) Grouping of the indicator and establishment of the usesof the cartography. The application of the methodology allowed to find that although, certain quantity of the coastal cartography of populations doesn't fulfill the adopted requirement of horízontal accuracy, it is possible use it in other activities settled down by the object and functions of the DIMAR on related with the colombian coastal areas.
