Abstract
Surface transport of waters in the region off the Guajira Península (Colombia) is dominated alternately by a major cyclonic current in the southwestern comer of the Caribbean Sea and by wind induced coastal upwelling in a yearly cycle. Observation of the yearly wind cycle and of surface salinities as affected by upwelling and by runoff from the adjacent Magdalena River provide a record of seasonal variations in the location of the zone of confluence between waters from the cyclonic current and waters from the main axis of flow of the Caribbean Sea
