Abstract
The analysis of phytoplankton samples of Dominican Republic taken aboard the R/ V "San Andrés" of the Colombian Navy during a cruise achieved by means of a cooperative program between these two countries, shows a tropical plankton with diversified dinoflagellates as the dominant organisms as well as a scarce plankton in the Southern and Eastern coasts off the lsland and a little more abundant in the Northern coast. Ornithocercus magnificus, Goniodoma polyedricum, Ornithocercus thumii, Ceratocorys horrida and C. armata were the dominant species of dinoflagellates. Cyanophyta (probably Oscillatoria) could also be important but not the diatoms; these were poorly represented; only a few Rhizosolenia spp. and Chaetoceros spp. anda relatively frequent species, Coscinodiscus radiatus were mainly observed. lt is given a list of species for each station, descriptions of some uncommon species rarely found in plankton as well as photomicrographies.
