Abstract

Sedimentologic data representation for bottom sediment mapping of the continental platform needs standardization of technical analisis and classification criteria. The proposed classification is based en two parameters: Grain size, Calcium carbonate percentage. The use of this classification for the Colombian continental platform between Bocas de Ceniza and Rosario Island allowed the appearance of two kinds of sedimentation: Detritical sedimentation from the continent, in the north of Cartagena, influenced by long shore currents. Biogenic sedimentation related to reef formations in the south.
