Abstract

n 1993, the "Center for the Pollution Control in the Colombian Pacific" (CCCP), went on monitoring and analysing parameters such as sea surface temperature (SST), mean sea leve/ (MSL), south oscillation index (SO!), precipitation and air temperature at assigned coastal and oceanic stations. By April and October, at oceanic stations salinity indexes were found very high (36 p.p.m.), assosiated to Cromwell current and the variation of anomalities was highly significative, obtaining maximun values during June ,for a later tum back to regular values during December 1993. At the begining, tuering pre-Niño phase, a superficial and subsuperficial cooling with a progressive warming was reported Alterations reported in 1993, were the result of 1991-92 event at post-Niño phase. In arder to know the harmonic behavior pattem of "En Niño" events, the most significative parameters for the last five eventes were carefully analyzed, determining their ranges of variation in each one ofthem. According to the physical manifestations at each phase and stage, some oceanographic, meteorological and biological indicators were stablished for the area of Tumaco At pre-Niño phase, surface and subsurface cooling, rain behavior, SST and MSL positive anomalies were determined At subsequent phases, ranges, averages and considerations were indicated in arder to reach a high forecasting accuracy of the harmonic behavior patterns
